SACRAMENTO – Senator Ted Gaines (R-El Dorado) today announced that his request to audit the City of Lincoln has been approved by the Joint Legislative Audit Committee. The audit, to be conducted by the California State Auditor, will include a review of the administration of public funds and assets by the city over the past five years.
“The legislature plays an important role in ensuring that our local governments are transparent and trustworthy administrators of taxpayer dollars,” said Senator Gaines. “Recently, information has come to light showing a potential pattern of mismanagement among some at the upper levels of City government in Lincoln. By conducting this audit, important questions can be answered with regard to this local government’s proper stewardship of public funds.”
Over the past several years, citizens have challenged the City of Lincoln based on skyrocketing water rates and made some disturbing findings, leading to broader concerns over failure to comply with reporting requirements under state law, and a pattern showing poor internal controls and fund management abilities.
